During my workplace-based learning I was mainly with the Health and Social Care programme. This day they were having a lesson in medicine. The teacher is explaining how the heart works while writing on the white-board. She also used the doll showing a body inside (which is standing at the desk) As a social worker I will not be able to teach medicine but it was still an interesting lesson to attend. I think it´s important for me as teacher to get to know a little bit about all the courses of the programme I`ll be teaching at.

  1. Hello Anna

I agree with you that it is important that you are familiar with other courses that your students will be studying.

It is also useful to see other approaches to teaching.

During your workplace learning what teaching approaches did you like the most? What did you like about them?

    Regards
    Susanne

    1. I very much appreciated discussions in small groups after reading about a "real case". I think it´s important that the students time after time realise that health care and social work are meetings with real persons in need of help. I also appreciate combining lectures with writing and wathing short films, a great variety in the classroom situation.

  2. Hello Anna! As I have the same background as you (social worker) I am far from the field of medicine and know very little about it, so I appreciate the opportunity that you were given here. I too will try to get that experience in one of the other periods if workplace learning!

    1. Yes, do that! I can recommend it to you. I will do it again in the next workplace period. But one of the students thought
I was a bit strange, she asked me about something and I answered "I don´t know" and she said "shouldn´t you become a teacher"? That was a bit funny:)

    1. Yes they worked in the same way at "my school" and I think that´s very good. The teachers at my school worked in pairs in most courses, one "nurseteacher" and one "socialworkteacher".

  5. Hello, Anna!
I´m also in the posission that I want to learn more about other subjects to add to my education in social policy. To be able to teach in social subjects, I think we need to have knowledge about many subjects close to social subjects, to be professional enough. Social subjects are an enormous big area to cover. How do you calssifie social policy in your university, is it almost the same as social work?
